We've been through quite a few small towns so far and it's curious to see how many of them have on display their claimed "Home of the Biggest (insert item here)". I'm not entirely sure why this is such a novelty, other than I guess it's a way to distinguish yourself from other points of interest on the map. There doesn't always seem to be a reason for choosing a mascot, as long as it's the biggest or you're the first town to claim so.
For example, Sudbury has the world's largest nickel, Wawa has the world's largest goose (and quite a few of them) and Kenora has Husky the Muskie.
I missed out on taking photos of Sudbury's nickel and Wawa's geese, but from here on in, I'll do my best to bring you evidence of any other World's Biggests that we come across. I'm sure we're bound to see some doozies :)

i LOVE Husky the Musky...i have a picture with him too...i have spent many august long weekends in that area...
parts of rural manitoba are littered with towns with 'mascots' including a canada goose, a prairie chicken, a ukranian easter egg, and so on...it's quite the phenomenon i guess...
